Tim01

For the plush variant of a Tim, see Tim (Plush).

Tims (ティム, Timu) are creatures found in Balan Wonderworld, and are used as an aid during the player's adventures.

Description[]

Tims are the guardians of Happiness Times, they are mysterious creatures that live on the Isle of Tims. They are born from the happiness (Happiness Times) felt by inhabitants of the real world. There are Tims of all colors and personalities, and they’ll help you on your adventure by using their unique quirks. When the hearts of the inhabitants of the real world lean towards positivity, more and more Tims are born. If people's hearts lean towards negativity, there will be fewer Tims. But in the novel, the Tims can disappear whenever they want to, or have to whenever their energy runs out, the same is said for Negati. This contradicts how Tims can be lost in both the game, and in the game's demo.

Tims are peaceful entities found in Wonderworld that feed on (postive) Drops. It is mentioned in the novel that the Tims can eat in stages, but in the game, you can only feed them on specific flower patches on the Isle of Tims. Leo and Emma were both lured into the Balan Theatre by Tims, which confirms that Tims have the power to come into the real world.

Tims can possess abilities by feeding on specific Drops, or in the King Tim's case, perform all abilities, but all Tims have the power to destroy Heart Trees. All Tims can defend against Negati as well, but red Tims are most effective in doing so. When a Tim gets attacked enough times by a Negati, it will be stunned, with stars above the Tim's head, you can revive the Tim by coming in contact with it.

While in an Act, you can have up to five random Tims accompany you, though you can grab one and bring it into an Act. This is the only way to guarantee a Tim to come with you. You can not finish the Act if you do not have any Tims accompanying you, because there has to be at least one Tim to destroy the Heart Tree. Though you can always go back to the Isle of Tims through the game's menu, or through a checkpoint.

When you feed a tim enough Drops, it will become large. You can not bring a large Tim into an Act with you, but it can be used to breed Tims, but after awhile, it will turn back into its normal size. When a Tim is large, it can also play on a Tim Trampoline. There are larger Tims shown in the game's opening cutscene much larger than any in-game Tim (including the Ultima Tim).

The Tims are portrayed by Hina Kino.

Obtaining/Losing/Raising Tims[]

Starting Tims

Starting Tims

When you begin the game, you start with five Tims, including a pink Tim with a pink Drop Medal already on it.

Tims are obtained through either finding eggs in Chapters, found by Pink Tims, or through breeding. They will increase in size, and will change colors and abilities when given different colored drops. It is suggested to raise a diverse population of Tims.

Pink Tims have a chance at bringing Tim eggs, although seldom. This happens rarely in a Chapter's Act, in where a Pink Tim can be seen with a small Tim on its head. After a while, it would disappear and will be added to the items list in the menu as a Tim found (small yellow Tim icon.) If you get attacked, and have to go back to the last Checkpoint you were on, the small Tim would disappear, so its advised not to fight any Negati enemies while a Pink Tim carries a smaller Tim.

Breeding[]

To breed a Tim, you have to feed a Tim until it is fully grown, then throw a small Tim at the large Tim. An egg will appear afterwards, and the grown Tim will turn back into its default size. To hatch the egg, simply come in contact with it. There is a glitch where the egg will be out of bounds and can not be hatched, but it can be fixed by entering and exiting an Act.

Abilities[]

Each Tim color (obtained through being fed drops) has a different ability:

  • Red: Attack enemies effectively.
  • Pink: Find items: keys, drops, eggs, other Tims.
  • Blue: Destroy spike spheres.
  • King: The King Tim can perform the abilities of every color of Tim when brought into a level. The King Tim can not change its initial color.

These colors do no give a Tim any ability:

  • Yellow: N/A (After feeding a Tim enough Yellow Drops)
  • White: N/A (A color only found on new Tims)

Tims can sometimes lose a bit of their Drop color or change to another color after preforming an ability.

Losing Tims[]

It is possible to lose Tims, either a Tim has been trapped in a Tim Trap and was left behind, or a Tim has not been revived after being stunned and was left behind as well. It is recommended to head count your Tims and to attack Tim Traps while in an Act before leaving it.

Note: You can not have less than 5 Tims total, even if they have not been revived or are in a Tim Trap, they will still be with you when you exit the Act.

The death sprite when a Tim dies in the Demo.

In the Demo and said in unreleased dialogue, it is possible to lose Tims if they have been unconscious after a while on the Isle of Tims. When they "die," they become purple Tim ghosts sprites that float upwards, and the Tim counter will drop. They do not "die" while on the Isle of Tims in the current game.

Tims most likely died from not being fed drops after a certain amount of time, and the progress is added on when there are more than 50 Tims, which would be how the game caps the amount of Tims you have without you going to the true maximum (256).

They might have also been made to die because it will make each Tim a nonrenewable resource to build the Tower o' Tims, with the player having to find more Tim Eggs to bring in more Tims, or breed Tims more often. Large Tims did not die, Tims being held by the player do not die as well. You can't have less than 5 remaining Tims total, if so, the 5 Tims will never die (just like how in the full-game, the 5 remaining total Tims can not be lost.)

The maximum amount of Tims that you can have is 256. Anymore Tims that you have hatched will disappear when you go into a Chapter and back.

Tim Eggs[]

There are two types of Tim eggs, regular and rainbow Tim eggs. The regular eggs are white with wavy golden stripes, and the rainbow variant is of a regular Tim egg with a rainbow effect. There seems to not be a big difference between the two eggs, except that rainbow Tim eggs are more rare than regular Tim eggs, and that they have a higher chance to hatch Tims with head parts. To obtain more Tim Eggs after collecting all of them in one Chapter, you'll have to restart the Acts by successfully fighting the boss.

You can have up to four Tim eggs on the Isle of Tims at the same time, anymore Tim eggs obtained while in stages will not appear in the Isle of Tims. In the Demo, you can have more than 4 Tim eggs at once on the Isle of Tims.

Appearances[]

Tims all share the physical appearance of a small and spherical baby chick-like animal, with two small sphere appendages acting as hands, they all have a tail resembling a rabbit's on their backs, and sometimes have ears of different animals. They often have different physical looks including different head accessories, patterns, and colors.

Below is the list of spotted physical looks possible on a Tim. The names of the head accessories and patterns are unofficial.

Head Accessories:[]

Hats:

  • Egg Shell - Egg shell top (resembles a Tim egg)
  • Balan's Hat - A hat that looks like Balan's hat, but without any eyes.
  • Propeller Hat - A propeller hat, that also functions as a cap.
  • King's Crown (Only on King Tim) - A small, golden crown. (This hat is not removable)
  • None - No hats on the Tim.

Cosmetic Hats appear on a Tim sometimes after you finish an Act. They can also be dropped to the ground and will disappear after leaving the Isle of Tims again..

Head Parts:

  • Bunny Ears - Ears that resemble a bunny's.
  • Cat Ears - Ears that resemble a cat's.
  • Bear Ears - Ears that resemble a bear's.
  • Spiky Hair - Resembles a pineapple top or spiky hair.
  • None - No head parts on the Tim.

Head Parts randomly occur whenever a Tim is born, though they can be inherited from another Tim. A Tim can not have a Hat and Head Part at the same time. (Eg. Bunny Ears and Egg Shell)

Patterns:[]

  • White Belly - A white belly on the bottom of a Tim, seems to be common.
  • Dark Stripes - Two dark stripes on a Tim's body.
  • Dark Spots - Dark spots on the face and back of a Tim.
  • Dark Stars - Dark stars on the body of a Tim.
  • None - No patterns on the Tim.

Its possible for a Tim to have two patterns at once, for example, a Tim with Two Dark Stripes and White Belly.

Colors:[]

  • Main Drop Colors: Pink, Red, Cyan.
  • Other Colors: White, Yellow.

Because they progressively change colors when fed drops, you can get lighter/grayish variants of the Drop Colors, creating Tims with unique colors. The white color is not obtainable through feeding. It is not possible to make a green, gray, black, or (dark) blue Tim. Though a blueish-green Tim is possible.

Eye Colors:[]

  • Blue
  • Green
  • Purple
  • Red
  • Brown
  • Cyan

A random eye color is selected when a Tim is born. The Tim's eye color can not change.

Drop Medals:[]

(Appear after feeding a Tim enough drops of one color)

  • Pink - Feed a Tim Pink Drops.
  • Red - Feed a Tim Red Drops.
  • Cyan - Feed a Tim Cyan Drops.

The medals are not removable, unless two Tims with all three medals breed.

The King Tim[]

Two King Tims. Notice the left Tim has a White Belly.

The King Tim is a special Tim only available by breeding two Tims with all three Drop medals. It has a whiter color than a regular white Tim, and has a King's Crown. It is possible for a King Tim to have patterns or different colors. Currently, the only occurring pattern found on a King Tim is a White Belly, which seems to be common.

The King Tim is needed to obtain the Balan Costume.

Obtaining The King Tim[]

Two Tims with all three Drop medals are needed to breed a King Tim. You do not need for them to have a specific head accessory, color, or pattern, or need to complete the Tower o' Tims.

To obtain the three Drop medals, you need to feed the select Tim(s) either the red, cyan, and pink drops until they have a little medal on its body of that color. Then repeat the process for the other two colors.

A Tim with the required medals needed.

A Tim with the required medals needed.

Then you will have to breed the two select Tims together. It is not a guarantee that you will obtain a King Tim, so you can either try again, or soft-restart the game. Once you see a tiny white Tim with a King's Crown, then you have successfully bred a King Tim. After breeding, the three medals for each Tim will disappear, this does not happen when breeding Tims with one or two medals. The parent Tims can regain at least 3 or 2 of their original medals after breeding the King Tim and going into an Act.

After feeding it some drops and entering/exiting an act, it will be at a normal size. You can now use the King Tim to activate the Tim of Legend statue after using Rainbow Drops, or you can keep it.

As the number of Tims increases, the Tower o' Tims on the Isle of Tims becomes built. When Tims are fed drops, they rush to the Tower o' Tims and ride on it, acting like a ball in a rolling ball sculpture, when they finish the ride, they are shot out, and the counter increases. When the number of points reacts a certain point, new parts for the Tower o' Tims and Tim trampolines are created. The Tims can go on the Tower o' Tims without Drops and increase the no. of points.

There is no in-game award nor advantage for completing the Tower o' Tims, but you can earn a trophy/achievement for doing so.

Trivia[]

  • Demo Sample 1
In a demo sample image, Tims were shown to have tails (2 possible tails shown, a short one, and a long, thin one that ends in a ball), the Cat Ears Head Part was slightly longer, and were in colors not possible in the full game (green, gray).
  • The Tim breeding/raising system is similar to systems seen in NiGHTS Into Dreams/NiGHTS Journey of Dreams (Nightopians) and Sonic Adventure 2 (Chao).
    • The King Tim is also similar to the King Pian/Super Pian from the NiGHTS series.
  • In the files, Tims are called "Mofu"
  • Originally in the Demo, you can step on top of Tim Trampolines, in the final game, there is an invisible barrier preventing you from doing so.
